This is a super-quick knit in chunky yarn, on 5.5mm needles. Set aside an evening, start a favourite film, pour yourself a glass of wine (optional), place a fluffy cat on your lap (not optional) and knit yourself an Angry Pig hat! Designed for The Boy and modelled by The Cat.
You will need: 1 skein (~100m) darker green chunky yarn (I used King Cole Big Value, a basic acrylic), oddments of lighter green, white and black DK, 5.5mm and 4mm circs, small amount of toy filling, tapestry needle
Beanie Base:
Co 80 in chunky green. Join on 5.5mm circ. 6 rows garter, 25 rows stockinette until 5 inches long (until 6 inches, if omitting ear flaps). Set up for decreases K20 pm rep from 3 more times.
Row 1: k to 2 before marker, ssk, sm, k2tog rep from 3 more times
Row 2: k all
Rep row 1 – 2 5 more times. Then row 1 only until 8 stitches remaining. Cut off tail and thread through.
Earflaps:
Pick up 15 stitches starting from below one decrease “seam”. K in garter for 8 rows. From row 9, k2, k2tog, k until last 4 stitches, k2tog, k2 on all odd rows. K all for all even rows. BO when 5 stitches remaining.
Ears:
CO 10 in chunky. Row 1, 3, 5, 7: k all stitches
Even rows: k first 2 and last 2 stitches, p all others
Row 9, 11: k2, ssk, k to last 4, k2tog, k2
Row 13: k1, k2tog, k2tog, k1 (4 stitches), BO all.
Snout:
CO 44 in DK lighter green with 4mm needles. Join in round. K all for 7 rounds. k11 pm rep from 3 more times. k to 2 stitches before marker, ssk, sm, k2tog until 8 stitches remain; cut and thread through remaining stitches.
Finishing:
Run thread through snout and pull into a cup shape. Stuff with washable toy stuffing. Sew onto front “panel” of hat. Using chain stitch, sew eyes using white and black DK thread. Sew on ears. Weave in all edges.
Done! Now get ready to steal some eggs…
